Who We Are

Dr. Chris

Chris Hawley, MD

Dr. Chris Hawley grew up in Fair Oaks, CA and developed a passion for sports through playing competitive soccer and track & field. His love for sports and human performance led him to the University of Southern California to earn a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Bioethics. At USC, he enjoyed competing in the long jump for the Trojans (“Fight on, USC!”) for a season before heading off to medical school. Wedding bells rang for Dr. Chris and Kim, his high school sweetheart, during the second year of medical school. Dr. Chris graduated from the Drew-UCLA School of Medicine (“Go Bruins!”) with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. This unique medical school program provided opportunities to learn to address “big picture” issues for families and communities while meeting individual medical needs.

After medical school, they headed off to Seattle for his residency in Family Medicine at the University in Washington (“Go Dawgs!”) where he developed a passion for great coffee! After residency, his love of great coffee and sports kept him in Seattle for a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Washington. While in Seattle, their son Marcus was born. After fellowship, Dr. Chris moved to Austin to work for the University of Texas (“Hook ‘em horns!”). While in Austin, Dr. Chris picked up a new food passion — Texas BBQ! He also enjoyed playing a role in helping elite student-athletes reach their goals of winning Olympic gold medals, national championships and develop into outstanding professional athletes. Dr. Chris enjoyed maximizing the performance of elite athletes, but developed an “itch” to take some of the same life principles and apply them more broadly to meet the needs of people that participate in the sport called life (“Go people!”). Dr. Chris and Kim were also looking for a way to get back closer to family. In California, they hoped to find a good psychotherapist to cure them from a bad case of college mascot confusion that was the result of spending time at too many different schools.

In 2003, Dr. Chris, Kim, and Marcus, were excited to move Turlock and join up with a new group that loved to dream big! Romeo Medical Clinic shared the same dream of building a unique practice that makes a difference for families, communities and the delivery of health care in the U.S. Romeo Medical Clinic is pushing the envelope on the Medical Home concept of care and has received national recognition as a leader in healthcare innovation. Dr. Chris serves as the curriculum designer and frequent speaker for RMC’s Healthy U, a program to develop healthier lifestyles and lower health care costs. He also enjoys teaching as clinical faculty for U.C. Davis School of Medicine (“Go Aggies!”). Dr. Chris’ clinical practice includes family medicine, sports medicine, and occupational medicine. Dr. Chris is active in the community volunteering as a team physician for Pitman High school (“Go Pride!”) and leading Bible studies as part of Monte Vista Chapel. Since moving back to California, his family has grown with the addition of their daughter Katrina. Other treasures he has found since moving to Turlock include becoming an avid road cyclist and developing another new food passion — the great wines of Northern California!
